Workers’ Compensation In South Carolina

Workers’ compensation laws are designed to provide a satisfactory means of handling occupational disabilities. A 20th century development in North America, workers’ compensation laws evolved as the economy became more industrial and less agricultural.

Kristen McRee

Kristen S. McRee was appointed Executive Director of the South Carolina Workers’ Compensation Commission in November 2025. Ms. McRee is responsible for the administration and operation of the four functional departments: Judicial, Claims, Insurance and Medical Services and Information Technology. The Executive Director’s Office includes the Office of the General Counsel, Human Resources, Financial Administration and Procurement.
